Chu Lai, basecamp for the Americal Division, US Army, Vietnam

Chu Lai, Vietnam 1969-70.  The air was filled each day with helicopters such as this Chinook moving
sling loads of ammunition, supplies, or water blivits between the sprawling Americal Division base
camp and outlying bases.  Hot sun and hot sand were a constant during the dry season (Dec to Sep).

USAF C-123 at the Chu Lai airfield.  The aircraft was used, in part, to move soldiers between Chu
Lai and Saigon.  Note the attack aircraft near the hardened shelters in the background.  Color
photos provided by John Naughton, USARV Military Judge and visitor to Chu Lai.
